Sight

I paint crowds using images gathered from the scenes around me, the internet and magazines. On street corners and in squares, individual voices, habits and expressions recede, and people appear as similar figures within a crowd. Yet differences in contour and posture do not disappear; each body remains within the anonymous whole.

I blur the figures, allowing their individual forms to blend into the crowd. I retain a sense of familiarity in the image—something seen before, something known, though not clearly remembered—and paint each person’s presence as though it had seeped in.
